CV

I am self taught, with the help of various courses and workshops over the years, and have lived in Nottingham since 1972, moving to Ilkeston in 2007. I attended an A-level Art course at Clarendon College in the 1970's and studied at evening classes in the 1990's. In 2001, I joined the Nottingham Society of Artists, and was elected to be a Fellow in 2009. I was secretary of the Society from 2011 until 2014.

I regularly show my work in the Nottingham Society of Artists' exhibitions at their gallery on Friar Lane, and in the University of Nottingham Summer Exhibition at the Djanogly Gallery on the University campus. In October, 2014, I held a solo exhibition at Hopkinson's Gallery, Station St, Nottingham, entitled "A Body of Work" - a retrospective exhibition of my work over the past 16 years. My latest solo exhibition was called Big Heads held at the Society gallery, which showed recent large portraits of celebrities in charcoal on canvas.

I ran the Big Picture Group from 2001 to 2018. The group specialises in life painting, working from male and female models and keeping the same model and pose for four weekly sessions of two and a half hours each. The aim is to provide sufficient time with the model to produce a finished work. The group holds an annual exhibition at the Nottingham Society of Artists Gallery.

Artist Statement

My work is predominantly figurative and representational, and my main interest is in immersing myself in the process, exploring the possibilities of different media, and employing novel methods.

I regularly post images of my current work on my artwork Facebook page which you can visit by following the link on the left. I also post to my instagram account https://www.instagram.com/p.s.harrison/
