Join Nottingham Society of Artists and Have a Go at Being Da Vinci

To commemorate the Leonardo Da Vinci exhibition at the Nottingham Castle, the Nottingham Society of Artists (NSofA) is holding a special event on Bank Holiday Monday to celebrate the artist and his work. Leonardo: His Drawings, Your Drawings, Our Drawings is a free interactive family event that will bring art from members of the public and local artists, together with the work of the great artist.

The event will take place at the historic society's Friar Lane gallery between 10am and 4pm on Bank Holiday Monday (29 August). Members of the public will be invited to have a go at drawing a model dressed to reflect one of the sketches in the Da Vinci exhibition, or to try to recreate one of his sketches as they are projected onto a large screen. The drawings will then be displayed alongside artwork created by local artists for the event. All ages and abilities are welcome, and prizes will be given for the best entries. Entry to the event is free, and refreshments will be available throughout.

**Just turn up - no booking necessary **

In addition, visitors will also be able to see a 3D version of Da Vinci's Vitruvian Man created by a state of the art 3D printer demonstrated by printing firm John E Wright. The machine, which will tie the historic artists work with the 21st century.

Alan Gardner, Chair of the NSofA, said "Everyone is really excited about the exhibition at the Castle. It's inspiring having work from such an influential and highly regarded artist on show just up the road from our gallery. Our event is about allowing that inspiration to stimulate your creativity. Everyone is welcome, regardless of their drawing ability, to what is set to be a really fun day."

Invitation-only life drawing sessions will be held on the Saturday preceding the event; where members of the society, well-known local artists, and up-and-coming art students will create artwork for the exhibition.

After the event the complete exhibition, including the drawings created by the visitors, will be open for viewing daily until Sunday 4 September. Certificates will be given for the most admired drawings done by members of the public and announced on Wednesday 31 August.

The exhibition at the Castle features ten Leonardo Da Vinci drawings from the Royal Collection. It is running until Sunday 9 October. Nottingham is privileged to have been chosen as one of four locations the exhibition is travelling to across the United Kingdom and Ireland.
